Quick and Easy

Add this rich garlic and Parmesan rice bowl to your list of easy vegetarian meals in under 5 minutes. It’s so simple to make, yet quite versatile! With just 5 ingredients it can serve as a light snack, a quick lunch, or a dinner side to serve along with your protein of choice.

Keeping it Fresh

Herbs and spices are simple, savory stir-ins for rice dishes that make a significant impact. This recipe calls for both dried and fresh herbs. Italian seasoning is typically a blend of rosemary, basil, oregano, thyme, marjoram, sage, and savory. In other words, rather than buying and storing a half dozen herbs, go straight for that Italian seasoning; it will free up space in your pantry and reduce measuring time.

However, delicate herbs, such as parsley, are better fresh as they lose a lot of flavor in the drying process. And don’t throw out those stems — they have more flavor than the leaves! But, parsley isn’t the only fresh herb you can fold into rice dishes to take them to the next level.

Cilantro: Our refreshing Cilantro Lime Rice can be a light snack or the foundation for unforgettable tacos. If you’re craving something sweet rather than savory, swap the water for coconut milk for a creamier rice mixture.

Basil: Caprese isn’t the only salad with basil; our satisfying Mango Basil Chicken and Brown Rice Salad combines hearty ingredients — Minute® Brown Rice and chicken — with light herbs, fruits, and vegetables.

Mint: Yet another tasty herb that requires only a simple vinaigrette and a few fresh ingredients, our quick Mint and Feta Rice Salad blends refreshing herbs — mint and dill — with tangy feta cheese. And it only takes a few minutes to prepare!

Spice Things Up

As for the spice, a dash of pepper flakes will give your dish a nice kick. Keep in mind that chili flakes and red pepper flakes aren’t identical. Chili flakes are much milder, sometimes even a bit sweet. A mixture of multiple pepper varieties, red pepper flakes have more complex flavors and, because the mix includes seeds, is considerably spicier. Essentially, if the recipe calls for chili flakes, you only need a fraction of the amount called for if you opt for red pepper flakes. Unless, of course, you want to bring on the heat!

You can also use a spicier sauce like Sriracha, as in this Microwave Egg Fried Rice recipe. Looking for a new dinner idea? Try our Cheesy Chicken and Rice Recipe with Broccoli.
