Quick Persian Flavors

Traditional Persian cuisine is filled with colorful and rich ingredients that enhance the flavor of every bite. Made with just a few pantry staples and convenient Minute® Ready to Serve Brown Rice, this flavorful meal can be ready in minutes.

One of the most popular seasonings used for both sweet and savory Persian dishes is turmeric. This spice gives a bright yellow-orange color to any dish it’s added to, while offering bold and musky flavors, an earthy aroma, and a bit of peppery spice.

In just a few steps you can make your own shortcut Persian rice dish! Start with Minute® Ready to Serve Brown Rice, which only takes 1 minute to heat up in the microwave. Then, toss the rice with turmeric powder, which tints the rice a beautiful shade of orange. Taking a nod from traditional Persian dishes, we’ve topped this rice with pomegranate seeds and walnuts for extra flavor, color and texture. To complete the dish, add chopped parsley.

If you don’t have any pomegranate on hand, you can easily substitute it with fresh or dried cranberries, or even some raisins — anything that adds sweetness and contrasts the savory flavor of the dish.

Double The Recipe

This recipe is convenient for one serving. However, if you want to make this delicious meal for more people, just multiply the ingredients by the number of people you want to feed. Another solution is to try our Golden Rice Pilaf, which is similar in flavor and ingredients but serves 6 rather than just 1. Don’t worry, the meal can still be whipped up without any hassle and in just 20 minutes!

Dish Versatility

This rice bowl is filled with seasonings, textures and flavors, however, it’s completely customizable. If you want to make this dish more wholesome, you can add some protein — roasted chicken or chickpeas, for example. You can also make it a rice salad by adding some extra leafy greens and Italian salad dressing.
