Mixing Up Mushrooms

Feel free to experiment by mixing and matching different mushroom varieties in this recipe. It may be surprising to learn that button mushrooms, cremini, and portobellos are the same type of mushroom, just at different stages of growth. Like a fine wine, mushrooms develop richer flavor over time.

Button: These mushrooms are mild yet meaty and will enhance the flavor and texture of countless dishes – from casserole to pizza – so you may want to keep them on hand. The most popular and versatile variety, buttons are available everywhere. You can cut down on prep by grabbing a package that is pre-sliced.

Cremini: For a flavor boost with interesting texture, toss in some cremini, or brown button or baby bella.

Portobello: The mature portobello will add richer flavor and smoky notes to any dish. Slice them up nice and thin if you want a crispy rather than chewy texture.
