Tomato and Avocado

Juicy tomatoes and creamy avocados are an irresistible combo! When you have these two items stocked and you’ll have plenty of possibilities. With a few storage tips, you won’t have to worry about any waste:

Tomatoes

It’s best to store tomatoes at room temperature. Not only do they last twice as long — up to 10 days — but they retain their flavor. When stored in the fridge, tomatoes have a shelf life of about 5 days; just remember to take them out about 30 minutes before serving so you get more flavor.

Avocados

Remember to buy avocados several days before you plan to use them. To get rock hard avocados to ripen more quickly, place them and a banana or apple in a brown paper bag for a couple of days. If the stem is difficult to remove, it’s not ripe. Once ripe, store them in the fridge for 2 or 3 days.

Keep the party going by trying other recipes that have this delicious duo. For a hefty helping of herbal flavors, heap on some chimichurri sauce – a rich mixture of parsley, garlic, oregano – like on this Chimichurri Tuna Salad. A Flavorful Fiesta

There are plenty of ways you can customize this dish. You could ditch dicing by opting for cherry tomatoes – these round cherry tomatoes are extra juicy with a hint of sweetness. Or, you could swap in another one of our grain varieties.
