This Shawarma Chicken and Rice Pita combines jasmine rice, veggies and chicken into a quick and easy take on the Middle Eastern-style meal.
Filled with flavor and hearty ingredients, this simple recipe, made with shawarma-seasoned chicken and rice, is ready to enjoy in less than 10 minutes. For simple prep, use our fragrant Minute® Ready to Serve Jasmine Rice.
Step 1
Stir together rice, chicken and spice blend in a medium, microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on HIGH for 2-3 minutes, or until heated through. Stir in yogurt.
Step 2
Divide chicken and rice mixture between pitas by spooning along the center of each pita, leaving a 1/2-inch border at either end. Top filling with lettuce and tomatoes. To serve, cut each pita in half.
For a different flavor profile, substitute za’atar seasoning for the shawarma spice blend.
To make a batch of homemade shawarma spice blend, mix together 1 tablespoon each ground cumin, paprika and turmeric, 1 teaspoon each salt, black pepper and garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon each ground cinnamon and cayenne pepper.
To soften pita bread, microwave for 30-45 seconds before filling. This allows for easy rolling with no cracks or rips.

Easy to customize, you can make these shwarma’s any way you like! Swap in Greek tzatziki sauce for the yogurt and add in chickpeas, if desired. If you don’t have any pita bread on hand, use flour tortillas or make this dish into a rice bowl and serve it with pita chips.
