I’ve heard a lot of news reports regarding arsenic in food products — what about arsenic in rice?

Arsenic is a chemical element that is ubiquitous and has always been present in air, water, rocks and soil, which is how plants absorb it, regardless of whether the farming method is conventional or organic. Because it is everywhere in the environment, it is unavoidable in food and has always been present in the worldwide food supply. Dietary exposure to arsenic comes from a variety of different sources, including fruit, fruit juice, vegetables, rice, wheat, flour, corn, beer, wine and water. Arsenic exposure from food is 80 percent lower than that determined to be safe in drinking water. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration continually monitors the U.S. food supply, including rice and rice products, to assure food is safe. Current science points to rice as a healthy and nutritious food that contributes only a minor amount of arsenic to the human diet. The safety of our products is a top priority.

How does Minute® Premium Rice compare to Minute® White Rice?

Minute® Instant White Rice is a long grain white rice which is precooked using a patented process which ensures consistent quality and convenience in preparation. Minute® Premium Rice is also a long grain white rice which is precooked but uses a different raw material, parboiled rice, which has a golden color and uses a similar cooking process as Minute Instant White Rice. In addition to the color difference, Minute Premium Rice grains are more separate and tend to be slightly firmer in texture. Preparation and 5 minute cook time are the same for Minute Instant White and Premium Rice.

Can I put Minute® Instant Rice in a garbage disposal?

We do NOT recommend you put rice, raw or cooked into your garbage disposal. Rice expands when you add water and cook it in a pan and it does the same inside your pipes or garbage disposal.

Where can I find the production code date on the Minute® products?

The production code date is located on the bottom of each package near the BEST BY date. It’s a combination of numbers and a letter (i.e. 122M940 or J01419).
